A 55-year-old Mahanoy City man died in Fishing Creek, in Columbia County, on Wednesday.
According to the Republican Herald, John Williams was reportedly visiting with other campers at the Fishing Creek campground when he stepped off from a cement-type patio surface onto the edge of an embankment overlooking Fishing Creek, lost his footing or balance and fell over an embankment.
Columbia County Coroner Jeremy Reese said he was called to a reported drowning at the Campground in Orange Township, after bystanders attempted to recover Williams from the water with no success.
Williams’ death has been ruled accidental.
