Governor Tom Wolf announced Thursday that the state will make $6.25 million available to counties ravaged by flooding in recent weeks.
The governor directed the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to provide the money for stream-bank restoration and recovery efforts by local communities.
The funding is being made available to numerous counties, including Luzerne, Schuylkill and Berks.
Applications for the money are being made through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and will provide 75 percent of the funding with the state matching with 25 percent on approved projects.
The money is eligible for removing debris from waterways, reseeding damaged areas and protecting eroded stream-banks from further damage.
However, the money is not available to repair or maintain existing structures, homes or businesses.
