The Northumberland County coroner, James Kelly, has released the name of the man found dead near Mount Carmel.
The victim has been identified as 33 year old Sean Maschal, of Mount Carmel.
State police said his body was found in a wooded area along Route 54 in Mount Carmel Township Wednesday morning.
The death was ruled a homicide by Kelley following an autopsy Thursday and the multi-agency investigation is being described as “intensive” and “around the clock.
Authorities said multiple persons of interest were interviewed but would not comment on if a suspect had been identified or was taken into custody.
State police said Maschal had been shot in the head.
The family has planned a memorial service for Maschal on Monday.
