Butler Township Police Department Lt. Daniel Holderman and North Central Highway Safety Network’s Traffic Safety Coordinator, Carol Alonge visited children at the Fountain Springs Daycare Center and North Schuylkill Elementary School, Tuesday, to present some basic information on how to be and stay safe in a vehicle on Tuesday through the “Sit Back, It’s Elementary” seat belt program.
According to the Pennsylvania K-12 Traffic Safety Educational Programs page, the program was designed to provide law enforcement officers with tools to educate children about the importance of proper seat belt use, vehicle positioning and general traffic safety.
Sit Back is the 2013 update to “The Back Is Where It’s At,” the commonwealth’s elementary seat belt program, in use, since 1999. That program reached approximately 36,000 elementary-aged children in more than 80 Pennsylvania elementary schools.
