Schuylkill County commissioners said hiring, and paying, interns during the summer of 2018 through a special state program was a huge success.
According to the Republican Herald, the state Department of Labor and Industry Workforce Development Board said the $2.9 million statewide program funded six interns for county government. It also funded 42 other interns for 15 other employers.
The Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board handled the local segment and while the program has ended for this summer, local officials remain enthusiastic about the results and hope to take advantage of it next summer.
