Drivers in Schuylkill County will be paying an additional $5 fee to register their vehicles in 2018.
That ordinance was adopted by the county commissioners Wednesday to impose the $5 fee on vehicle registration starting Jan. 1.
The fee will be collected through the state Department of Transportation when someone registers their vehicle and then remitted in full back to the county to spend on construction, replacement, maintenance, and repair of public roads and bridges.
Gov. Tom Corbett gave counties in Pennsylvania the option of adopting the $5 fee in his 2013 transportation plan, also known as Act 89.
