The Cressona 11-12 all-stars are the District 24 Little League champion.
They defeated St. Clair-Port Carbon-New Philadelphia (SPN) 3-0 Tuesday at James S. Clark field in New Philadelphia
In the top of the 1st inning, Brody Robinson singled, and Ryan Caulfield stroked a 2-run home run to put Cressona up 2-0.
The only other scoring in the game came from Cressona, when they tacked on an insurance run in the 2nd inning.
Owen Oakley reached base, and Skyler Devitt and Taylor Stewart singled to load the bases, chasing SPN starting pitcher Morgan Rupert. Robinson hit into a fielder's choice that scored Oakley to make the tally 3-0.
Luke Baker was the starting pitcher for Cressona. He faced 17 hitters in 3 and two-thirds innings, struck out 6, gave up all 3 SPN hits and walked 3 on 86 pitches. Relief pitcher Gavin Bartholomew faced 8 hitters in 1 and a third innings, struck out 3, walked 1 and didn't give up any hits.
Uncharacteristically, SPN stranded 8 baserunners, 4 of which were in scoring position. One bright spot for SPN pitching was that their pitchers did not walk a batter in the game.
Cressona, which will move onto the Section 3 Little League playoffs, finished the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record. SPN posted a 4-2 slate.
