SPN will face Cressona for the District 24 Little League championship after they defeated previously-undefeated Schuylkill Haven 5-3, Sunday afternoon at James S. Clark Field in New Philadelphia.
Schuylkill Haven lead off the game with a run in the 1st inning. Mason Ulsh doubled, and scored on an RBI single from Jack Higgins.
SPN came right back in their half of the 1st inning. John Holobetz singled, and went to 3B on an overthrow. Dylan Shirey then stroked a 2-run home run to put SPN up 2-1.
SPN tacked on another run in the 2nd, as Justin McClure hit a solo homer to make it 3-1.
Haven tied the game in the 3rd. Dawson McAlister singled, and Ulsh walked. They moved up on a passed ball, and then Jake Houtz drove them both home with a single to make it 3-3.
SPN took the lead for good in the 4th. McClure put down a bunt single, and Riley Stanton drove him home with an RBI triple to make it 4-1. Stanton came home on an RBI groundout from Holobetz.
Jake Kuperavage, who slammed two homers Saturday, pitched a complete game for SPN, scattering 5 hits, striking out 2 batters and walking 1.
Ulsh pitched to all but one batter, gave up seven hits, struck out 3 and walked 2.
SPN will host Cressona for the District 24 Little League championship Tuesday at James S. Clark Field in New Philadelphia.
On Sunday, Cressona defeted Upper Dauphin, 1-0.
