Blue Mountain Start Dates...




Blue Mountain Elementary West students in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will have their first day of school on Sept. 5 at St. Ambrose Elementary School in Schuylkill Haven. 

Kindergarten orientation will be held there at 5 p.m. Tuesday. There have been no changes to the schedule for Blue Mountain Elementary Cressona. 

Those students will start school on Tuesday.

11 Charged...



A search warrant executed at a Minersville home Tuesday night led to seven people being jailed, charges filed against three others, including a juvenile, and a warrant issued for another man. 

According to the Republican Herald, officers converged on 109 S. Second St. after the warrant was obtained for investigations related to illegal narcotics in the borough. 

Police found large amounts of cash, marijuana plants, methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia. 

Police are still searching for the owner of the home; 45 year old Christ J. Natale Sr. 

All those charged will now have to appear for preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko in his Port Carbon courtroom with the exception of the juvenile, a 16-year-old girl, who had charges filed with Schuylkill County juvenile authorities.

RECALL...




Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles are being recalled from grocery stores such as Walmart, Target, and Costco for posing a choking threat. 

5.7 million bottles are included in the recallAccording to the Consumer Product Safety Commission the Contigo bottles’ clear silicone spout can detach, rendering it a possible choking hazard. 

Contigo reported the bottles were sold individually, as well as in two packs and three packs. T

he recalled bottles were sold from April 2018 through June 2019.

Sponsorship's wanted...



The Crimson Tide Foundation is seeking corporate sponsorships for programs to benefit students of the Pottsville Area School District and is hoping a state tax credit incentive will enable more businesses to become involved. 

According to the Republican Herald, the foundation will be renewing its yearly application in November for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, or EITC. 

In the foundation’s case, it hopes to use money generated to upgrade the district’s publications program. 

This will be the third year the foundation is applying to become an approved Educational Improvement Organization, to be an EITC participant and recipient of donated funds.

Hazleton wants to increase fines...




Double parkers beware. You may have to pay a higher price if you get ticketed in the city of Hazleton. 

The $200 fine for double parking would be one of the highest in the region as most range anywhere from $10 to the highest amount of about $100.

 Council will take up the measure at its next meeting with the hope of enough support to approve the new city ordinance.

Theft charges heard in court...




A certified public accountant testified Tuesday, in Schuylkill County Court, that an audit trail shows a Pine Grove woman stole thousands of dollars from her employer. 

According to the Republican Herald, State police at Schuylkill Haven allege 51 year old Carrie Aungst stole $26,527.76 in money and gifts from Pine Grove Auto Sales while employed there in 2016 and 2017. 

Prosecutors allege that in numerous transactions, she altered invoices to remove notary fees, which she then pocketed. 

The trial is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. today before a jury and Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin.

Dog park donation...




Plans for a dog park in the city of Pottsville took a huge step forward with a $20,000 donation from CACL Federal Credit Union. 

According to the Republican Herald, the donation secures the naming rights for the park, which will be called the CACL Financial Bark Park. It will be built at the Peacock Street Playground. 

Officials said the goal of $25,000 for fencing, benches, security cameras and other needed improvements has been met. 

The park is expected to open in June.

Homicide Charges filed...




A man is facing criminal homicide charges after a shooting, early Monday, in Gordon. 

According to Skook News, 36 year old Michael Grady reportedly fired his 12 gauge shotgun shooting 24 year old Steven Molina. 

The incident happened around 4:30am at Grady's home in the 600 Block of Hobart Street in Gordon. Grady reportedly told police that he was handing the shotgun to Molina, when it fired hitting him in the neck. 

An investigation into the incident showed that Grady was impaired to a degree of intoxication during the incident and was in sole possession of the firearm when it discharged. 

Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale arraigned Grady around 4:00pm and committed him to Schuylkill County Prison with no bail.

Possible police merger...




Talks are underway between Sugarloaf and Butler Township Police Departments for a possible merger. 

Currently, Butler Township provides 24-7 coverage to its residents, while Sugarloaf Township Police depend on the state police to fill gaps in its coverage. 

Sugarloaf Township officials said they don’t want to burden residents with any additional costs. 

Butler Township Police Chief Brian Sabatini and Township Supervisor Charles Altimiller say it’s time to take a hard look at a possible merger with the nearby Sugarloaf township police department if the numbers add up.

Man charged in drug death...




A Hazleton man is behind bars, in Luzerne County, after being accused of selling a deadly dose of drugs. 

Authorities say Jose Contes is charged in the overdose death of a 25 year old in Hazleton back in January. Hazleton Police said Contes left the victim in a car along Sybert Street instead of calling 911. 

Contes was arraigned and locked up in Luzerne County Prison in lieu of $2 million bail.

Gun charges...




A Northumberland County man is in jail, accused of threatening a woman with a gun.

 Police say 23-year-old Logan Mathias was taken into custody and charged after he reportedly stalked a woman and waited at her Watsontown home. Authorities say when the unidentified woman arrived at the residence; Mathias pointed a gun at her, threatening to kill her. 

Police said Mathias was uncooperative and violent when he was taken into custody. He is locked up on multiple charges including terroristic threats.

Record set...




Alfred Benesch & Company's, Pottsville branch, broke the Guinness World Record for Longest Hot Wheels Track, on Saturday. 

According to Skook News, the record attempt took place on Buckhorn Road in Foster Township near the Minersville Exit of Interstate 81. 

The record stood at 1,838 feet and was held by Mattel Inc., in Moscow, Russia. The Benesch employees broke the record by adding another 200 feet of track until passing the finish line at 2,187 mark. 

Over 40 children, parents and employees participated in the event.

Fire under investigation...




Investigators are searching for a cause after flames leveled a home in Northumberland County. 

According to authorities, fire crews were called to the home at 520 Pine Street, in Kulpmont, around 2:30 Sunday morning. 

Crews from several communities battled the flames.

 Four people inside the home made it out safely and no injuries were reported. There is still no word on what sparked the fire in Northumberland County.

Driver identity not released yet....



A 30-year-old man was killed Sunday evening in a crash along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. 

According to authorities, the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. as the driver was traveling south near the 125 mile marker just north of Frackville. 


Police said the vehicle entered the left berm striking a set of guardrails continuing on between the rails and the tree line in a brush area. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels, with the driver being ejected. 

The unidentified victim was treated at the scene before being flown to a trauma center. 

State police at Frackville are investigating the incident.

Man threatened to bring gun...




A Schuylkill Township man was charged by Pottsville police in connection with an incident involving workers at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street on Tuesday. 

According to the Republican Herald, 32 year old Kevin Sinitski, of MaryD threatened to bring a gun to the hospital, after becoming frustrated with hospital staff, prompting the facility to institute internal safety precautions.

 Following the completion of the investigation, police said, it was determined there was no active threat to the hospital and the safety measures were deactivated.

Accidental Drowning...




A 55-year-old Mahanoy City man died in Fishing Creek, in Columbia County, on Wednesday. 

According to the Republican Herald, John Williams was reportedly visiting with other campers at the Fishing Creek campground when he stepped off from a cement-type patio surface onto the edge of an embankment overlooking Fishing Creek, lost his footing or balance and fell over an embankment. 

Columbia County Coroner Jeremy Reese said he was called to a reported drowning at the Campground in Orange Township, after bystanders attempted to recover Williams from the water with no success. 

Williams’ death has been ruled accidental.
