Saturday afternoon's snowy and icy road conditions played a factor in a two-vehicle T-bone accident along Route 54 between Locust Summit and Locust Gap, in Northumberland County, that claimed the life of a woman believed to be from the Wilkes Barre area.
Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Michael Pitcavage, said the 3:07 p.m. crash occurred as the victim was operating a Hyundai Elantra west on Route 54 toward Locust Gap when the passenger side of her car collided with the passenger side of a Suburban driven east toward Locust Summit.
According to Pitcavage, the woman in the Elantra, whose identity was not yet released by officials, was killed upon impact.
The driver of the Suburban and his wife suffered minor injuries and were transported by Ashland Ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where they underwent emergency room treatment.
The crash is still under investigation.
