Democrat Michael A. O’Pake made the announcement, Thursday that he will be running as a candidate for the office of Schuylkill County district attorney.
O’Pake is very critical of the low conviction rate from the district attorney’s office in general, along with the even lower rate of the cases that current District Attorney Christine A. Holman, who was elected in 2013, prosecuted.
O’Pake said his ability to work with police as demonstrated in the past is the experience needed in the DA’s office, where he began working as a part-time assistant district attorney in 1992. O’Pake opened his own practice in Pottsville in 2000. He left the DA’s office in 2013, and in 2014 he became a public defender.
The 53 year old is a native of Mahanoy City and lives in Norwegian Township near Pottsville.
