A former deputy coroner in Carbon and Schuylkill Counties has admitted to soliciting sex online from an agent with the state Attorney General’s office who was posing as a 14-year-old boy.
60 year old Edward C. Smith, of Tamaqua, is still facing more severe charges for sexually assaulting a teenager over a period of months starting in 2015.
On Friday, he pleaded guilty to two felony counts and is facing at least 48 months imprisonment after the guilty plea.
His sentencing has been set for April 4.
He was jailed on $250,000 bail, and is still incarcerated at Luzerne County Prison.
