Schuylkill County will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Specified locations in the county will accept expired, unwanted and unused prescription medication with no questions asked.
The take back is headed by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. There are 4,700 collection sites in the country for the event.
Locally, it is coordinated by the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office and Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol in conjunction with participating police departments.
The following police departments are participating in the drug take back: Ashland, Butler Township, Cass Township, Frackville, Mahanoy City, Minersville, Orwigsburg, Pine Grove, Port Carbon, Saint Clair, Shenandoah, Schuylkill Haven, Tremont and Tamaqua. The Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office will also participate.
The following items will not be accepted: glass containers, intravenous solutions, syringes and illegal substances.
The medication will be stored until it is picked up by a DEA agent.
Minersville Police Chief Michael Combs said a box will be in the lobby of the police department.
The Drug Take back Day will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
