The county’s first mosquito-borne disease control technician said he may be back next year to continue monitoring West Nile virus.
According to the Republican Herald, 21 year old Kyle Schutt, of Frackville, said the Schuylkill Conservation District submitted an application for funding to the Department of Environmental Protection recently to monitor the virus next year.
A grant paid for the full-time position which started May 14 with the conservation district and will end Oct. 31.
Shutt said he will also now be helping out in another capacity with the conservation district for a pilot program to monitor the spotted lanternfly, an insect that can wreak havoc on the agricultural industry, in the county.
