Applications are now being accepted for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
LIHEAP is a grant, and therefore does not have to be paid back by families who are eligible to receive help with their heating bills, or in the event of a heating emergency.
During the 2016-17 LIHEAP season, 5,791 households in Schuykill County received $2,189,851 in cash assistance.
Federal funds for LIHEAP are provided to qualified applicants based on where they live, income, number of people in the household and type of fuel used.
Weatherization assistance is also provided. There are five heating regions with Schuylkill County in Region 2.
Applications are being accepted beginning today through April 6.
