by News Department on 12/13/17Casinos coming to Pottsville?

A mini casino could be a possibility in Pottsville’s future.
According to the Republican Herald, the city council has been discussing Act 42, the gaming expansion law, signed by Gov. Tom Wolf earlier this year.
Municipalities have until Dec. 31 to opt out if they are not interested in having a mini casino. Barry, Branch, Cass, East Brunswick, Wayne and West Brunswick townships have opted out.
Those not interested in hosting a mini casino must adopt a resolution prohibiting such and submit it to the Gaming Control Board.
There are up to 10 category four slot machine licenses available. Such a casino could have between 300 to 750 slot machines, and there could be up to 50 table games.
The category four licenses would likely be owned by existing casino operators in the state.
City Administrator Thomas A. Palamar said the topic is likely to be discussed at future council meetings.
