A change in federal DEA rules, in 2014, stripped home care providers of the authority to take unwanted medication from patients, unless state law required it.
To alleviate the issue, State Senator Lisa Baker introduced a bill that would return authority to home care professionals.
The bill, which lawmakers say could close a critical gap, passed out of committee and is expected to go up for a vote in the Senate in January.
