A malfunctioning wood-burning stove is being blamed for a fire that damaged a home in Mahanoy Township, early Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called out at 3:47 a.m. Wednesday morning for the report of a structure fire at 115 Roosevelt Drive, in Morea and found flames inside the in the area of the wood stove.
Mahanoy City Fire Chief Dan Markiewicz said it was determined a malfunction with the stove caused the blaze that he ruled accidental.
Richard Trexler and his mother, who reside at the home have been left temporarily homeless and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
