Flu season...
The state Department of Health announced that nine people in Schuylkill County have tested positive for the flu this season.
According to the Republican Herald, DOH data shows there have been 512 confirmed cases of the flu, statewide with one death being reported. The DOH will not confirm who that person is, but data show a person who was between 50 and 64 years old when they died.
Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David G. Moylan said previously a 50-year-old woman from Schuylkill County died of the flu in November.
The flu season often starts in October and November and peaks between December and March. It is recommended that those 6 months of age and older should get the flu vaccine.
Symptoms can include a fever, sore throat, muscle or body aches, a runny or stuffy nose and a cough.
The DOH releases flu updates on its website, www.health.pa.gov, every week during flu season.
