Taxpayers in the city of Pottsville should prepare to pay more money for school taxes.
According to the Republican Herald, the Pottsville Area school board on Monday unanimously voted for the preliminary budget that includes increasing the tax rate.
The proposed budget’s tax rate increase is 2.5074 mills above the index. To be approved for a rate above the index would require the district to apply for special exceptions from the state Department of Education.
The increase for a home assessed at $50,000 could be $192.87 more a year, amounting to a school district tax bill of $2,127.57.
There was no additional discussion of the $41,339,015 budget.
A final budget must be adopted by June 30.
