The city of Pottsville has a new fire chief. City council appointed James E. Misstishin Sr. as chief for a four-year term.
Mayor James T. Muldowney swore him in at the meeting Monday.
Former Fire Chief Todd March retired last year after 42 years.
The city interviewed two other candidates for the position who withdrew their names before selecting Misstishin, who is a Pottsville native and was an assistant chief with the city for 17 years.
He has been with the Pottsville Fire Department for 41 years.
