Two families displaced...





Two families displaced after fire in Mahanoy City, over the weekend.

 Emergency personnel were called to 508 West Spruce Street, Mahanoy City, Friday, for a fire on the second floor of the home. 

The fire was contained to the front bedroom of 508 West Spruce but the rest of the home suffered smoke and water damage. 

The home next door at 510 West Spruce Street also suffered smoke and water damage. The occupants of 508 West Spruce Street are staying with family. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents of 510 West Spruce Street.


One juvenile, who resides at 508 West Spruce, where the fire originated, suffered minor burns to their hand.

According to Mahanoy City Fire Public Information Officer David Truskowsky, the cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature and is not considered suspicious. 

All homes had working smoke detectors.
