The City of Pottsville is considering requiring organizers of special events to apply for a permit.
According to the Republican Herald, a draft of the special events permit requires an event request be submitted in writing to the mayor’s office 90 days prior to the special event date.
A $175 nonrefundable application/administrative fee is also required; however, according to a draft of the permit application, it would be waived for constitutionally protected events. Fees of $60 per hour police officer and $40 per hour for street department workers will also be charged if applicable.
The draft of the application requests the name of the applicant, event organizer, billing contact and person who will be on site the day of the event. There are questions also asked if any street closures are needed, city services such as police and a map of the event area attached to the application and proof of insurance is required.
City Administrator Thomas A. Palamar said the topic will be discussed again at another city council meeting in the future.
