North Schuylkill agrees on calendar plan...

After considering several options, the North Schuylkill school board has approved a plan to adjust the school calendar for snow days, as to not interfere with the original graduation date of May 31.

According to the Republican Herald, the options were presented for the board’s consideration that would meet the state’s attendance requirements of at least 180 school days and 990 instructional hours.

The adjustment was necessitated by weather cancellations on March 10, 13, 14 and 15.

The option chosen will allow for no school on Good Friday, with graduation and the last day of school on May 31, which would be a full day of school. The plan includes extending school days on May 1 and 8 by 30 minutes each, from the usual ending of the classroom day at 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and also includes four Act 80 days at the end of the year.

The instruction time would be 990 hours and 12 minutes. The board voted unanimously in favor of this option.
