An effort is underway to transform Schuylkill County's only city into a tourist destination.
State Representative Mike Tobash said the city of Pottsville has a lot of potential and organized a revitalization meeting at the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority Monday night.
The Pottsville Area Development Corporation wants to bring more tourists to the city and America's oldest brewery is a big part of that plan. D. G. Yuengling & Son estimates that between 50,000 and 75,000 people tour the facility every year and the business wants to make the experience more interactive, expand the gift shop, and organize special events.
Representative Tobash wants to keep the momentum going by inviting more groups to participate in this ongoing effort and said there will be another Pottsville revitalization meeting in the near future.
