Five years ago, The Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center (SARCC) of Lebanon and Schuylkill Counties established the Children’s Hero Award which is presented to an individual or group that works to protect children from sexual abuse.
SARCC has announced that this year’s award recipient from Schuylkill County is Detective Joseph Welsh from the Pottsville Police Department.
Det. Welsh specializes in investigating sexual assault allegations, child abuse cases, and all serious crimes.
Prior to his employment with the Pottsville Police, Welsh was employed by Schuylkill County Children &Youth Services where he worked in the Child Protective Services Unit investigating allegations of child physical, mental and sexual abuse.
SARCC Staff nominated Detective Welsh because he commits his energy, time and expertise in seeing that each child who reports sexual violence is treated with dignity and respect.
Detective Welsh will accept his award at the SARCC’s Annual Dinner on April 13th.
