Thousands came out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, for the 14th annual Girardville St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The parade and other festivities that were postponed from March 25 due to snowstorm Stella carried on in their traditional festive manner.
Don Dudash, parade manager, said Saturday's crowd wasn't as large as past parades due to it being rescheduled as some of the bands and other parade participants that were lined up for March 25 weren't able to make it to Saturday’s event.
U.S. Sen. Robert Casey, of Scranton, served as the parade's grand marshal and Lt. Gov. Mike Stack, whose grandfather was a coal miner from Girardville, also walked the parade route and greeted citizens. Stack was last year's grand marshal.
This year’s parade honored the Legend of the Molly Maguires, along with the 140th anniversary of the “Day of the Rope” that occurred in Schuylkill and Carbon counties in 1877.
