Authorities have released the name of the man at the center of yesterday’s police standoff in Hazleton.
Police say 46-year-old Joseph Polin was the man who lived at 305 East Elm Street, where the standoff took place.
The incident started just before 8 am after there were reports of shots fired, possibly at police officers.
No officers were injured and the Hazleton Police Chief described the early morning scene as a police ambush.
Police later found Polin's body inside the home. An autopsy is scheduled for today but initial reports say he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
