The fifth annual Schuylkill County Cleanup Competition took place Tuesday with students from five Schuylkill County schools competing.
STC students started the event as part of a Schuylkill County Youth Summit project and it is now open to all county schools.
Ninth to 12th-grade students from Pottsville Area, Minersville Area and Mahanoy Area school districts along with STC-North and STC-South started at 8:30 a.m. and spent three hours gathering litter throughout the county.
This year, STC-South won the competition for the first time.
The effort is held in conjunction with the annual Schuylkill Keep It Pretty spring cleanup, which began Tuesday and ends Sunday.
