Hearings continue for Gillingham...

During the third of eight scheduled public hearings to determine the fate of the Gillingham’s second charter, Pottsville Area’s director of middle school special education claimed Gillingham Charter School, in Pottsville, violated numerous rules in its first five years of existence.

Kelly A. Brennan said also alleged that some Gillingham representatives did not have the proper qualifications to carry out certain duties regarding special education. She made references to a few while referring to Gillingham’s annual reports.

Mark G. Morford, Mechanicsburg, an attorney for Gillingham, argued that after Brennan contacted the state Department of Education with a list of complaints about Gillingham’s special education program in Oct. 2012, the PDE found that Gillingham Charter School was in compliance with all 12 areas that were investigated.

The hearings will resume this morning at 9:30 a.m.
