Schuylkill Keep It Pretty kicked off Thursday with the first of four days of cleanups of litter, trash and garbage through the area.
Groups that participated in day one were the Pottsville Business Association, Penn State students, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and M&T Bank employees.
There are also at least twelve school districts involved in the event.
The annual spring cleanup is organized by Schuylkill Keep It Pretty, a nonprofit organization that has been sponsoring cleanups since 1986, the year it was founded.
Those 30 years have seen thousands of volunteers providing a tremendous community service twice each year during the spring and fall cleanups.
