Ashland residents warned...

Ashland residents are urged to use caution for the possibility of rabid wild animals in the borough.

According to Skook News, Ashland Police Chief Mark O'Hearn said the department has confirmed that a pet dog was attacked by a skunk in the borough recently.

The skunk was sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Health and tested positive for the rabies virus.

A second incident involved a sickly raccoon being observed during the daylight hours displaying abnormal behavior and approaching a dog and its owners near a residence.

Police ask that residents stay away from any animals that appear sickly or displaying unnatural behavior and contact the Ashland Police or call 911 immediately.
