Demolition...

An emergency demolition is in the works for the vacant property that collapsed in Girardville in the early morning hours Tuesday.

According to the Republican Herald, most of the peaked roof collapsed on the vacant structure, causing the inside floors to pancake into the basement.

The collapse also hit an occupied property at 235 W. Main St. and causing some damage. The residents were able to remain in their home. The adjoining structure to the east, 229 W. Main St., which was vacant, sustained damage to the common wall.

Borough council President/Acting Mayor Robert Krick said the borough will raze the double-home at 231-233 W. Main St. as soon as today.
