Homes and businesses in Schuylkill County will see the replacement of their electric meters with modern digital models later this year that will benefit the customer and the energy supplier.
According to the Republican Herald, PPL Electric Utilities plans to install the “smart meters” beginning in September in Schuylkill and Carbon counties as part of a $470 million project that began in 2016.
The company will replace 1.4 million meters with moving parts in its 29-county service area.
Under Act 129, PPL and other electric utilities are required to install the smart meters by 2023.
