Voter turnout was reported heavy on Tuesday for the Primary Election.
National races for President, US Senate and Congress, along with Delegates to the respective party conventions were on the ticket.
In unofficial results, Democrat, Hillary Clinton topped Bernie Sanders in Schuylkill County by about 500 votes. On the Republican side, Donald Trump garnered the most votes over Ted Cruz and John Kasich by more than 13,000 votes.
Guy T. Anthony, Shenandoah and Carolyn L. Bonkoski, West Brunswick,will represent the 17th Congressional District as delegates at their party’s respective national convention in July.
In the race for US Senate, Katie McGinty was the top Democrat vote getter in the county. She bested retired Admiral Joe Sestak. Republican incumbent Pat Toomey was unopposed.
In the race for US Congress, unofficial results indicate that incumbent 17th District Congressman Matt Cartwright will head to the November race to face Republican Matt Connolly, who defeated challenger Glenn Geissinger.
For State Treasurer, Democrat challenger Joe Torsella will face Republican challenger Otto Voit.
For Attorney General, Democrat John Morganelli will face John Rafferty to replace embattled Kathleen Kane who is not seeking re-election.
And in the race for State House, all area incumbents were unopposed. Democrat Neal Goodman, Jerry Knowles and Mike Tobash won the primaries in the 123rd, 124th and 125th Districts.
