The announcement came Monday that St. Ambrose School will be closing its doors after 105 years.
According to the Republican Herald, a media release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown’s Communication Director Matt Kerr said the school faced steadily declining enrollment that caused “a heavy financial burden on the parish that operates it.”
There are only fifty-three students across nine grade levels enrolled this year.
St. Ambrose is the only remaining parochial Roman Catholic school in the county.
Kerr said families who transfer their children will receive grants over the next two years to defray the cost of tuition.
