The Schuylkill County commissioners voted Wednesday to strip former Clerk of Courts Stephen M. Lukach Jr. of his county retirement and health benefits, following his agreeing to plead guilty to two federal crimes.
According to the Republican Herald, the commissioners acted under the authority of the state Public Employee Pension Forfeiture Act. In accordance with that law, the commissioners took everything from Lukach except the money he paid into his pension, which he will receive back without interest.
The criminal case against Lukach, who resigned in April 2014, while under investigation for misuse of funds in his office, is still pending.
