The 14th annual Girardville St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set to take place on Saturday.
The event, sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians will begin at noon on Main Street with an outdoor celebration at the Hibernian House, located at Beech and Line streets, to follow.
The grand marshal will be U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa. This year’s parade will honor the “Legend of the Molly Maguires,” while saluting all labor unions. It is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the “Day of the Rope” that occurred in Schuylkill and Carbon counties in 1877.
The parade was originally planned for March 25, but it was postponed due to snow from Winter Storm Stella that dumped up to 18 inches in some areas of Schuylkill County on March 14.
