The state Department of Transportation is planning to improve the structural integrity of two bridges in Schuylkill County.
The deck of the bridge on the Port Carbon/Saint Clair Highway over Mill Creek in East Norwegian Township will be replaced and the superstructure, including the decks and beams, of the bridge on Mount Laffee Road, will be replaced. That bridge crosses the West Branch of the Schuylkill River in Cass Township and New Castle Township.
When construction begins either later this year or in 2018, these bridges will be closed to traffic and temporary detours will be put in place.
This week, the public can see the preliminary plans and will have the opportunity to comment on them.
This is part of a project to upgrade three non-composite, prestressed concrete box-beam bridges in the region.
