Fast response by police and a homeowner is credited with knocking down a kitchen blaze Saturday that injured one resident in a house situated in the center of a row of seven wood-frame row houses, in Coaldale.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 6:54 p.m. for the report of a kitchen fire at 65 Second St. At 7 p.m., a second call went out for a working structure fire, drawing emergency fire and medical units from Tamaqua, Lansford and Lehighton.
One occupant reportedly sustained minor injuries as he was attempting to put out the fire before crews arrived.
Coaldale police and the homeowner were able to knock down the flames, keeping the blaze from spreading to other rooms or adjacent homes.
Neighboring residents evacuated safely.
The row of historic miners' houses was built in 1900.
