207 Third Grade students at John S. Clarke Elementary Center raised $1,500 to donate to 5 charities in the local community.
During the school week of May 8, 2017, students learned about needy organizations in the community and voted to direct money from the KAREN CHATTIN NEY EDUCATION FUND to five community charities.
As determined by the school Administration and Third Grade teachers, lessons were taught to students about contributing charitable donations to causes in the local community.
Over the one-week period the children learned about the work of 5 local charities that benefit cancer survivors, people with disabilities, community performing arts, children’s reading and a local homeless shelter.
The balance of the money is being distributed equally among the American Cancer Society, Avenues, The Majestic Theater, Pottsville Free Public Library and Servants to All-Homeless Shelter.
