Approximately 28 people from the Tamaqua, Coaldale, Minersville and Mahanoy City areas were arrested Monday morning by officers serving narcotics arrest warrants.
Tamaqua Police Chief Rick Weaver said most of the arrests in the roundup dealt with “street level” dealers.
Police secured 28 felony narcotics warrants but believed they would have about 30 arrest warrants once everyone in the roundup was taken into custody.
The arrests began at 6:30am and continued into the late morning on Monday. Those arrested were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua.
Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman requested none of the bails be unsecured and that none of the defendants be released without bail due to the threats drugs plague a community with.
Holman said all of the defendants were taken to jail in the afternoon after high bail was set during their arraignments. Those arrested & charges against them are as follows:

• Laura Redner, 33, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance
• Christopher Farber, 24, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Heroin)
• Nathan Startzel, 21, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Prescription Drugs)
• Tonya Braun, 24, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Heroin)
• Tina Hoiser, 30, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Methamphetamine and Prescription Drugs)
• Bruce Matalavage, 56, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Methamphetamine, LSD, Heroin)
• Shannon Fredericks, 35, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Prescription Drugs)
• Anthony Valentine, 22, Tamaqua
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Marijuana)
• Charles Erbe, 48, Coaldale
o possession with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substance (Methamphetamine)
• Kimberly Frye, 27, Coaldale

• Christina Kieffer, 27, currently in Schuylkill County Prison
