A man was jailed Tuesday charged by Pottsville police after officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress about 8:20 a.m. in the area of 300 S. Centre St.
Police Chief Richard F. Wojciechowsky said officers learned from witnesses that a man had been inside 317 S. Centre St. at a time when the owner was not there and then fled on foot. Police located 24 year old Travis Martin Welfel, who has no known address, and detained him. Wojciechowsky said Welfel was then positively identified by witnesses as the man who had broken into 317 S. Centre St. and broke the window before fleeing the area.
He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $20,000 bail.
