National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day netted 407 pounds of drugs Saturday in Schuylkill County.
Sheriff Joseph G. Groody said the sheriff’s department collected 60 pounds, less than the drug take-back event in October 2016; however, Groody attributed that to people now being able to drop off prescription medication in the Schuylkill County Courthouse throughout the week.
Drug Enforcement Agency personnel collected the drugs for disposal Monday. Residents can contact their local police departments to find out if they have drug take-back boxes.
Deputies will still accept unwanted prescriptions for disposal during normal business hours at the Schuylkill County courthouse, 401 N. Second St., Pottsville.
