Today is a special day for the Pottsville Broadcasting Company. Seventy years ago, on May 9th, 1946, WPPA AM went on the air for the first time, as the first commercial radio station in Schuylkill County.
A V Tidmore came to Pottsville after learning about radio during its infancy, in The United States Navy, as an Engineer for CBS Radio and as a station owner in the Southern United States.
A V had a dream of creating local radio committed to the community. Today, A V’s son Argie Tidmore still owns and operates WPPA and sister station T102, continuing his father’s dream.
