The Shenandoah Valley school board formally adopted its 2016-17 fiscal year budget which will include a real estate tax increase.
According to the Republican Herald, the school board approved the budget in a 5-3 vote, with two board members stating that school districts continue to deal with unfunded mandates from the state that places more of the financial burden to provide educational services on the district.
The general operating budget plan of $17,841.653 includes an increase of $64,102 over the budget in the current fiscal year that will end June 30.
Real estate taxes will increase from 54.89 to 56.975 mills. Each mill is expected to bring in approximately $73,000.
