Charges filed against dump truck driver...

59 year old Rodney Wallace, of Pine Grove, will be cited after the dump truck he was driving struck a state police cruiser Monday afternoon in Lebanon County.

According to Cpl. Paul Smith of the Jonestown station, the crash occurred at 12:25 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81, at mile marker 95.2 in Bethel Township, as Wallace was driving north in the right lane and veered onto the east berm where the right front of his truck struck the left front of the state police cruiser, in a construction zone.

A state police corporal from the Jonestown station, who was not identified, had his marked police cruiser stopped on the east berm with the emergency lights activated after a traffic stop on another vehicle, occupied by a Connecticut couple.

Smith said the state police corporal, along with the pair from Connecticut, suffered minor injuries while Wallace was not injured.

The corporal was taken to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.

Smith said the investigation is ongoing and reminds drivers that they are required to move over to the slow lane or an open lane during the approach of emergency vehicles.
