Governor Tom Wolf is calling legislation he signed Wednesday afternoon the most significant step to reform the liquor system in Pennsylvania in 80 years.
As of right now, you can only buy wine in one of about 600 state stores across Pennsylvania.
After the governor's signature, Pennsylvania will now allow wine sales in licensed grocery stores, delis, hotels, restaurants and bars.
Under the legislation, supermarkets would be able to sell up to four bottles of wine in one transaction.
As for the roughly 600 state liquor stores, the new law gives them more flexibility with pricing and hours of operation.
The new law signed Wednesday will also impact casinos. Liquor sales will now be allowed 24-hours a day instead of the 19 hours under current law.
The union that represents employees of state liquor stores is strongly opposed but many customers say they'll be the ones to benefit.
State lawmakers think the new law would bring in an estimated $150 million to state coffers.
