Governor Tom Wolf signed the Bridge Fencing Safety Bill on Monday.
The bill comes four years after Sharon Budd of Ohio and her family were traveling on Interstate 80 East and a group of teenagers threw rocks from a bridge, causing tragic, life altering ramifications.
The Bridge Fencing Safety Bill or Act 65 of 2018 law states that PennDot will provide installation of protective fencing.
PennDot says it may take more than a decade to complete fencing to existing bridges that meet the new law.
The House of Representatives amended the bill to include fencing on bridges where instances of suicide or attempted suicide have occurred.
