Fire damaged a former tavern and two homes in Port Carbon Thursday afternoon.
According to the Republican Herald, firefighters were called to 106 Market St., the former Encounters Tavern, just after 1 p.m. for a report of a brush fire that was quickly upgraded to a structure fire.
Firefighters found heavy fire to the rear and side of the 106 Market St. property, with flames eventually spreading into a house at 108 Market St.
Another home located at 110 Market St., also separated by a narrow walkway, sustained minor smoke and water damage.
Although officials know the area where the fire started, the exact cause has not been determined.
